Information & advice

We want to make your Essential Balance experience truly relaxing and restful.

Your appointment time starts with a consultation which may take up to 15 minutes and your actual treatment session time is on top of this. If you are running late for your appointment please try to contact us; we will do our best to not reduce your treatment time, depending on timing of the following client and with consideration towards them.

We suggest you wear comfortable clothing. Please do not wear anything that you would worry about the oils staining.

We recommend that you refrain from eating heavy meals within one hour prior to receiving a treatment and avoid alcohol.

Please drink a good amount of water pre-treatment and try to limit tea, coffee and cigarettes.

For a full body massage treatment it is normal to be undressed to your underpants. Your modesty is protected at all times, as you will be fully draped with towels, except for the area being worked on.

 

Take a deep breath, exhale and leave all your worries outside the door. This way, you will truly feel all healing benefits from your treatment. We are here to look after you!

Your first appointment

Before a client's first massage session an initial consultation is conducted to learn about their desired outcome. The consultation is very important to establish if there are any contraindications and also to find out about the current state of your work life life, home life, physical health and mental state. The consultation is also very important to establish a professional relationship with the client. During this time the therapist can reassure you about any aspect of the treatment that concerns you, thus helping an anxious client to relax. 

After the consultation we will discuss the treatment plan;  including what your goals are for your massage therapy session. Are you experiencing stress and want to feel relaxed…Do you have knots or tightening in your neck, shoulders…Having back pain? Are you a runner with sore calves and/or thighs? We will discuss the pressure that you prefer and if focus is required on specific parts of your body that you have requested.

If you have chosen to have an aromatherapy treatment the essentials oils will be selected and blended with the carrier oil.

 

After you massage treatment

Massage Contra actions

To ensure you experience the full benefits of the treatment. It is important to rest afterwards and have a drink of water or herbal tea, this will help flush out any toxins released by the treatment and will help reduce the risk of any contra actions.

Contra actions are a mild side effect which can occur during or after treatment. They should subside within 24 hours, leaving you with a sense of wellbeing.

If you do experience any of the following contra actions, please let us know on your next appointment so that your records can be updated and future treatments adjusted accordingly.

  • Reddening of the skin ( Erythema) – oxygen and nutrients being delivered to the skin. Can also be an indication of sensitive or dehydrated skin
  • Sore muscles- due to release of toxins and nerves responding to the massage
  • Feel emotional, tearful due to release of tension
  • Nausea, headache, cold like symptoms
  • Tiredness, hunger or thirst
  • Increase in urination, bowel movements
  • Increase perspiration

After care advice

  • Take time out  to relax and enjoy the full benefits of the treatment
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Avoid stimulants, such as tea, coffee, alcohol, nicotine
  • Drink plenty of water or herbal teas
  • Do not eat a heavy meal

Aromatherapy Massage and Hot Stone Massage

  •  Take time out  to relax and enjoy the full benefits of the treatment
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Avoid stimulants, such as tea, coffee, alcohol, nicotine
  • Drink plenty of water or herbal teas
  • Do not eat a heavy meal
  • Avoid sunbathing, sun beds, and tanning products for 24 hrs
  • Avoid bath or shower for 24 hrs
  • Avoid hot treatments such as waxing, sauna, steam baths for 24 hrs

Home care advice

  •  Have regular weekly holistic treatments to keep stress levels to a minimum
  • Use oils in the bath to aid relaxation or rub  into  damp skin to nourish  and protect the skin
  • Use the recommended essential oils in oil burners in the home to induce a sense of well being
  • Exercise 2 -3 times a week
  • Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day
  • Include plenty of fruit and vegetables in your diet
  • Aim to get 7 hours sleep a night
